In this family saga that just released on February 9th, we find a father & daughter on a journey that begins where the water ends.⁣
⁣
Written by the author of the number-one international bestseller, The History Of Bees, this is a story of nature and the human spirit or exploration, resiliency and risk.⁣
⁣
With a dystopian bent, we embark on a journey with David and his daughter Loud, who are in the midst of a horrific drought and fighting to survive. As they flee their home to find safety, they find Signe's abadoned sailboat and begin to weave together her story with theirs showing us the tenacity of the human spirit.⁣

♥️ Happy Women’s History Month! ♥️

What book mail have you received recently? 📬 I was thrilled when a #gifted copy of A Boob’s Life by Leslie Lehr arrived on my doorstep! This gem is out tomorrow, March 2nd, just in time to kick off a month all about women! 🎉 See the synopsis below, and prepare to be intrigued.👇🏼

“At turns funny and heartbreaking, A Boob’s Life explores both the joys and hazards inherent to living in a woman’s body. Lehr deftly blends her personal narrative with national history, starting in the 1960s with the women’s liberation movement and moving to the current feminist dialogue and what it means to be a woman. Her insightful and clever writing analyzes how America’s obsession with the female form has affected her own life’s journey and the psyche of all women today.” 💁🏻‍♀️

I love stories about the French Resistance during WWII and am so happy to be part of the tour for 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴 𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘳 by @kristycambron. Thanks to @tlcbooktour and @tnzfiction for including me and for a gifted copy of the book!

𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿‘𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Based on true accounts of how Parisiennes resisted the Nazi occupation in World War II—from fashion houses to the city streets—comes a story of two courageous women who risked everything to fight an evil they couldn’t abide.

𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴, 1939. Maison Chanel has closed, thrusting haute couture dressmaker Lila de Laurent out of the world of high fashion as Nazi soldiers invade the streets and the City of Lights slips into darkness. Lila’s life is now a series of rations, brutal restrictions, and carefully controlled propaganda while Paris is cut off from the rest of the world. Yet in hidden corners of the city, the faithful pledge to resist. Lila is drawn to La Resistance and is soon using her skills as a dressmaker to infiltrate the Nazi elite. She takes their measurements and designs masterpieces, all while collecting secrets in the glamorous Hôtel Ritz—the heart of the Nazis’ Parisian headquarters. But when dashing René Touliard suddenly reenters her world, Lila finds her heart tangled between determination to help save his Jewish family and bolstering the fight for liberation.

𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴, 1943. Sandrine Paquet’s job is to catalog the priceless works of art bound for the Führer’s Berlin, masterpieces stolen from prominent Jewish families. But behind closed doors, she secretly forages for information from the underground resistance. Beneath her compliant façade lies a woman bent on uncovering the fate of her missing husband . . . but at what cost? As Hitler’s regime crumbles, Sandrine is drawn in deeper when she uncrates an exquisite blush Chanel gown concealing a cryptic message that may reveal the fate of a dressmaker who vanished from within the fashion elite.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴 𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘳 went on sale Tuesday, February 16.

qotd: what is something you are thankful for today?

aotd: I am thankful for the sunshine. Last week was one tough week with all the winter storms here in Texas so the sunshine is bringing a smile to my face.

Thank you to @tlcbooktours for the gifted copy! 🙏

Falling Home is a relatable read. Author Hallie Lord shares stories of her struggles and describes how she found the way to overcome them. She spreads love and hope and that is something I think we can all use during these times. She is able to highlight her struggles and what she has learned to speak and share her wisdom.

Synopsis:

Hallie Lord understands the upheaval life can bring. From her parents’ divorce when she was a preteen to moving eleven times in fifteen years with her family, the radical changes she faced relentlessly pushed her toward fear and helplessness. Yet by digging into her faith and through much self-reflection, she realized that even though those challenges had left her a bit battered and bruised, they had also equipped her for any difficulty that may arise.

In Falling Home, she describes the four interconnected foundations that now give her strength and security during life’s upheavals:

• committed, supportive friendships,

• healthy family relationships,

• an intimate love affair with God, and

• a compassionate sense of self.

Inviting readers into her hard-fought journey, Lord shows them how they, too, can embrace whatever life brings their way. With lyrical prose and a tender, inviting voice, she shares how hurts and sacrifices are also the groundwork for creating a beautiful life that can catch them whenever they fall.

☀️Book feature & giveaway

How do you keep warm during a record-breaking winter storm and power outage in Texas? You read an adventurous tale about the Old West.

Thanks to @tlcbooktours and @blackstonepublishing for the gifted copy of this stunning debut of a novel.

Synopsis: All the Cowboys Ain't Gone is the rollicking adventure story of Lincoln Smith, a young Texan living at the beginning of the twentieth century, who thinks of himself as the last true cowboy. He longs for the days of the Old West, when men like his father, a famous Texas Ranger, lived by the chivalric code.

Lincoln finds himself hopelessly out of time and place in the fast-changing United States of the new century. When he gets his heart broken by a sweetheart who doesn't appreciate his anachronistic tendencies, he does what any sensible young romantic would do: he joins the French Foreign Legion.

On his way to an ancient and exotic country at the edge of the Sahara, Lincoln encounters a number of curious characters and strange adventures, from a desert hermit who can slow up time to a battle with a crocodile cult that worships the god of death. He meets them all with his own charming brand of courage and resourcefulness.

My thoughts: If you love fast-paced historical fiction with vibrant, likable characters then this book is for you! I read this book in a day and couldn’t stop thinking about it when I put it down. It’s a great escape and a brilliant debut. I can’t wait to read more by this author.

Happy Wednesday friends! Today I have some different books I want to recommend to y’all. But I’m thinking these are ones you’re gonna want to keep in your car for the spontaneous road trip adventure!⁣
⁣
Guide to the National Parks of the United States and Secrets of the National Parks will be your best friends if one of your goals is to get out more and experience the natural beauty of the U.S.⁣
⁣
💗My best friend and I (shoutout to @maddbrans ily) have been toying with the idea of a road trip for ages and now I happen to have the perfect tools 😏 Through everything that’s happened in the past two years, I’ve realized that I have a tendency to let time pass me by with the excuse of waiting for “the perfect moment”. Surprise, TPM doesn’t exist! We have to make room to do what we want to do.⁣
⁣
These two books are filled with beautiful images of the national parks along with with ALL of the information you’d need to plan a trip. They have phone numbers, directions, best times to visit, maps!! They also tell you HOW to visit: what fees you’d need to pay to enter, rental equipment information, visitor centers and very clear directions. Basically all of the info you’d get by Googling but boiled down to what you’d actually want to have with you.⁣
⁣
✨Have you visited any of the U.S. National Parks?

⁣
What book did you want to read last year that you never got around to?⁣
⁣
If we're anything at all alike, you probably have a long list of titles fitting this criteria. One of the standouts for me on the list of "I wish I would have gotten to that book" is NO BAD DEED by Heather Chavez. This one was a bookstagram favorite in 2020! ⁣
⁣
Not only am I thrilled to have a copy finally in my hands, but it just got voted as the April pick for @criminallygoodbookclub, so I'll definitely be reading it soon!⁣
⁣
This amazing sounding read is finally out in paperback today, so go snag a copy and join me reading it in April!⁣
⁣
A huge thank you to @tlcbooktours, @williammorrowbooks & @iamhrchavez for my gifted copy!⁣
⁣
Synopsis:⁣
Driving home one rainy night, Cassie Larkin sees a man and woman fighting on the side of the road. After calling 911, the veterinarian makes a split-second decision that will throw her sedate suburban life into chaos. Against all reason and advice, she gets out of her minivan and chases after the violent man, trying to help his victim. When Cassie physically tries to stop him, he suddenly turns on her and spits out an ominous threat: “Let her die, and I’ll let you live. And this will change her life.”

⁣
Thank you @tlcbooktours for these gifted books! It’s a snow day in Ohio and much of the U.S. Hope these sunny covers help warm you up today!⁣
⁣
Have you been to many of our national parks? I think I’ve only been to about five, but I’ve loved them all. My favorite was probably the Grand Canyon on vacation when our boys were younger. But there are so many more I want to visit!⁣
⁣
In true @natgeo style, these books are filled with gorgeous photos and great information and resources. I especially enjoyed reading about the hidden gems at the various parks and found useful information for lodging, visitor centers and much more.⁣
⁣
Pre-pandemic we were planning to visit our son in Alaska and go to Denali. We still hope to get there this year or next and might be able to check out the Kenai Fjords near Seward, Alaska as well. The other parks high on my list are those in Utah – Arches, Bryce Canyon, Zion and more. These guides will certainly be useful in planning our travels!⁣
⁣
Fun fact: There’s even a national park in Ohio! Cuyahoga Valley National Park is in the northeastern part of the state. We’ve visited a handful of times with our dogs to view the scenic waterfalls and other attractions. We still need to ride the railroad though.⁣
⁣
Do you have a favorite national park?⁣
⁣
Take care my friends. Be safe and stay warm! 💕

I’m so excited to read Dance Your Dance by Laurieann Gibson as she shares principles and insights into what motivates her and helped shape her career.

I think all too often we compare ourselves to one another in terms of careers, finances, relationships, and especially on social media when we truly need to focus on ourselves. Your dream, your dance, is unique to you and you should never allow others to deter you. It’s so important to surround yourself with positivity and love because those individuals will always genuinely support you. If you have ever doubted yourself this is your chance to follow your passion. Today is your day and I’m rooting for you! 💕

🏴‍☠️ Action thriller with a kick ass female lead and pirates?! Hi. Hi there. Yes. 😏
.
.
“A fast-paced, page-turning thriller that contemplates the consequences of motherhood, memory, and crime as a commodity.

Black ops specialist Aubrey Sentro may be one concussion away from death. But when pirates seize the cargo ship she’s on, she must decide whether to risk her life to save her fellow passengers.

Sentro’s training takes over, and she’s able to elude her captors, leaving bodies in her wake. But her problems are just getting started. Her memory lapses are getting more frequent, symptoms of serial-concussion syndrome.

As she plays a deadly game of cat and mouse with the pirates, she pushes herself to survive by focusing on thoughts of her children. She’s never told them what she really does for a living, and now she might not get the chance.

While her memories make her vulnerable, motherhood makes her dangerous.”

SYNOPSIS

The 45 percent of American women who take career breaks know better than anyone that searching for a job—with its new modes of communication, new rules of discoverability, and new expectations—has changed rapidly in the last decade. This book lays out a clear path for anyone ready to re-enter the workforce.

On the job hunt? Don’t just polish your resume—you better make sure your LinkedIn profile is updated. And, if you aren’t getting responses from recruiters, chances are it’s, because the robots aren’t selecting your profile because it’s missing pertinent keywords. And, by the way, dress codes have changed and you’ll need to know new technologies such as Slack and Google+ Hangouts.

Got it?

For many women re-entering the workforce after a career break, the job search world is a disorienting, confusing, and overwhelming place. Getting started is much easier when you know what the first step should be.

In Back to Business, career coaching and re-entry experts Nancy McSharry Jensen and Sarah Duenwald have put together a guide for women returning to the workplace.

Easy to understand and easy to put into practice, Back to Business teaches you how to:

Identify and talk about what you want, taking into account what you’ve been up to while on break.
Understand your personal brand, both in-person and online, and how your skills translate to the career you are looking for.

🖤 Blog Tour: 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗛𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗪 𝗕𝗢𝗫 by @luannerice. 🖤 Thank you @amazonpublishing & @tlcbooktours for the gifted copy. ⁣

This book is available now. ⁣

After reading her last book, 𝘓𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘋𝘢𝘺, I was curious to see if Luanne Rice was going to take a new direction with her books & I'm happy to say she has...not that I didn't enjoy her earlier books. But I also love that she has moved into the mystery/psychological thriller genre.⁣
⁣
I loved how this latest book starts with a violent crime & then we are left to work out the pieces. The book moves back & forth in time & I loved trying to work out just what was going on. There are also a lot of characters but I never felt lost as everyone is so richly developed & stands on their own. There were so many potential suspects & I loved that there were multiple things going on to keep you engaged.⁣
⁣
One of the things I've always loved about this author's books is that she sets her books in small towns & you can count on her characters keeping secrets. This is definitely the case here. Right from the start I was pulled into the story & that pull never let up. I loved all the different points of view & felt I was part of the investigation. There are quite a few twists & turns, & while you may think you know where things are headed, you definitely don't know everything. ⁣
⁣
If you enjoy a good, smart mystery, definitely give this one a try. ⁣

It’s Bachelor Monday 🌹 Repost from @bibliolau It’s Bachelor Monday 🌹 Repost from @bibliolau19

As the star of the twentieth season of The Bachelor, Ben Higgins looked like he had it all together. Instead, Ben felt dissatisfied, fearful, and deeply alone. Like so many of us, he thought of himself as the kid who never got picked for the game, the person always on the outside of the joke, the friend who knew a lot of people but was never truly known. He wondered if he mattered at all.

In Alone in Plain Sight, Ben vulnerably shares how he found authentic connection with himself, with others, and with God. As Ben helps us name our own yearning for meaning, he explores ways to understand ourselves more deeply so that we are free to connect with others; how shared pain can bridge even the widest gaps between two very different people;
why we must deconstruct our culture’s fairy-tale view of love; and how the God who longs for relationship with us is the answer to our need for connection.

As Ben discovered, in a disconnected world, it is still possible to have lasting purpose and peace. You are already known. You are already loved. You are already seen. Discover how to live out how much you matter as you embrace the true meaning of your one incredible life (Goodreads synopsis).

❤️❤️❤️

Are you a big fan of The Bachelor? While I haven't watched as religiously the last couple seasons, I always seem to get sucked into the show, and I can tell you that Ben Higgins' season was one of my very favorites! So it goes without saying that, when I learned he had written a book, I was absolutely onboard to sign up for his book tour via @tlcbooktours !

❤️❤️❤️

Though I'm not very far into this book, I'm already loving it! It reads like a conversation over coffee with a good friend, and during a pandemic, that's definitely what I need. I also love learning more about Ben aside from what I learned from The Bachelor.

❤️❤️❤️

My review of this one will be coming soon, so keep your eyes peeled!

#feature // The Paris Dressmaker

💬 Are you interested in fashion?

Once, I loved watching fashion shows and flipping through glossy magazine pages. While leggings and hoodies are my go-to today, this book was a fond reminder of an old love, wrapped in an incredible story of strength and resistance.

Told across the span of the Nazi occupation, The Paris Dressmaker highlights the brave women who used everything in their power to resist darkness and restore light to their world.

Paris, 1939.

Paris, 1943.

Happy Valentine’s Day! A VINEYARD VALENTINE is a Happy Valentine’s Day! A VINEYARD VALENTINE is a flirty and fun novella and the perfect thing to listen to on this day of romance 💕🍷😘 Repost from @mrsboomreads

#feature 💝 Happy Valentine’s Day!

💬 What is your ideal way to spend time with someone you love? Romantic, familial, and platonic...anything goes!

💝If you are looking to add a little humor and swoon to your day, this @audible Original novella, A Vineyard Valentine, is the perfect listen! I enjoyed every minute of this story.

The annual Valentine’s Day singles soiree is always a big money-maker for Eloisa Giordano’s winery. What could be more romantic than looking for love at a quaint family vineyard on the most romantic night of year? Well, just about anything as far as Eloisa is concerned. She’s a Valentine’s Day Grinch who thinks it’s the lamest, most clichéd holiday ever invented.

Fortunately, she’ll get to hang out with like-minded folks this year by hosting an Anti-Valentine’s Day party on the same night. She’ll just need to alternate between events to keep them both running and she’ll be raking in the profits. But Eloisa is thrown for a loop when a sexy, self-described hopeless romantic shows up at the singles soiree and keeps her captivated. Will he change her mind about the holiday…and about love?

Thank you to @ninapolitan @ronconiamanda @audible and @tlcbooktours for the free audiobook!
