QOTD: What are some of your favorite funny TV shows?

I love rewatching funny tv shows, and one I have been recently re-watching is Parks and Rec. If you love parks and rec you should check out Bethany Turner's new novel- Brynn and Sebasian Hate Each Other. It is said to be like Parks and Rec meets The Morning Show.

She’s a sunny morning-show host. He’s a cynical ex-reporter. They’re destined to hate each other . . . Aren’t they?

Brynn Cornell has to be stuck in a nightmare. Just last week, she was riding high as cohost of the popular morning show Sunup. She’s America’s Ray of Sunshine. All it took was one huge on-air mistake to expose her snarky side to the world and make it all come crumbling down. Now she’s back in her hometown of Adelaide Springs, Colorado, in a last-ditch attempt to convince viewers she’s not the mean girl they think she is. All she has to do is apologize and capture some feel-good footage reminding everyone she’s just a girl from humble beginnings who’s grateful for her big break, and she might manage to preserve both her career and her image. But this town holds painful memories that she’s not ready to face.

Sebastian Sudworth was on the fast track to the journalist hall of fame. A superstar reporter with a reputation for being in the center of the action, his fearless, relentless coverage of major events around the globe was winning him awards and accolades–until something snapped inside him and he vanished from the scene under mysterious circumstances.

When Sebastian is assigned to chauffeur Brynn around town, Brynn is sure he can see right through her carefully cultivated, sunny persona. But she’s determined to do what it takes to maintain her image and save her career–so she’ll just have to charm the socks off Sebastian the same way she charmed her viewers. Easier said than done.

Synopsis 👉

Barbara O’Neal’s latest, The Starfish Sisters, is a rich story that will touch your heart in so many ways.

💜𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆?

O’Neal has a way of tapping into all your emotions, while drilling straight down into the soul of her characters, and she did this with each of her characters through the theme of found family…which I can never get enough of. I loved the way Pheobe and Suze were basically sisters and how sisterhood played a part in their summers, and everything wasn’t always peachy keen. Their childhoods and teen years slowly unfold throughout the story through dual timelines, as each woman remembers different experiences and traumas, while in the present they seek to find their way back to each other.

🐚 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲?

This was a slow burn character driven story.

💜 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸?

This is a heartbreaking and at the same time heartwarming story about two women coming back together and coming to terms with a tragic past and realizing that they still have each other and more.

💬 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠?

AOTD: I finally started Strange Sally Diamond and I’m definitely getting the hype!

🌸It’s finally time for me to rave about Come With Me by Erin Flanagan! I read it in June because I couldn’t wait. Flanagan is the Edgar Award winning author of Deer Season so I knew it would be awesome - and it was! It published August 22, so what are you waiting for?

🌸Gwen Manet had the perfect life until her husband died unexpectedly and she needed to provide for her young daughter. Finding a job wasn’t easy until she happened to reconnect with Nicola Kimmel -someone she once interned with. Nicola is a godsend! She helps with housing, salary negotiation, babysitting- you name it! But what is Nicola’s motivation? It might turn out to be deadly!

🌸This book was a page turner! Just when I thought I had things figured out- there would be another twist.

🌸Thanks to @tlcbooktours @amazonpublishing and @erinlflanagan for the opportunity to read this one!

🌸What are your plans for the weekend?
THRILLER THURSDAY! Thanks for the great post, @let THRILLER THURSDAY! Thanks for the great post, @letmollyread! Not sure if I’d want to read this while vacationing in a cabin, though!

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six by Lisa Unger
•
It might still be August, but I am already thinking of what book I want to read on a family vacation in October! The setting is an isolated cabin on the shore of Lake Michigan, and while I wouldn’t describe it as luxurious, it is a trip I’ve been thinking about for months! What would make the trip even better? A suspenseful read about a dreamy vacation gone wrong, and a mystery guest determined to exact revenge!

⛰Synopsis: Three couples rent a luxury cabin in the woods for a weekend getaway to die for in this chilling locked-room thriller.

An isolated luxury cabin in the woods, spectacular views, a hot tub and a personal chef. Hannah’s generous brother found the listing online. The reviews are stellar. It’ll be three couples on this trip with good food, good company and lots of R & R. But the dreamy weekend is about to turn into a nightmare.

A deadly storm is brewing. The rental host seems just a little too present. The personal chef reveals that their beautiful house has a spine-tingling history. And the friends have their own complicated past, with secrets that run blood deep. How well does Hannah know her brother, her own husband? Can she trust her best friend? Meanwhile, someone is determined to ruin the weekend, looking to exact a payback for deeds long buried. Who is the stranger among them?

Today I’m teaming up with @drdeborahserani @kyrateis @freespiritpublishing @tlcbooktours to share the #SometimesWhenSeries #SometimesWhenImWorried book! This is a great tool for strategies a kid can use when worry overwhelms them, which they can take into their daily lives (complete with examples—in story form—of situations where worry might arise and how the character is helped through it)! There are also parent resources in the back for helping your kid through those strategies. This is very sweet and definitely useful for us, as my kids have their worry moments (one borders on pure panic sometimes so this will be extra useful for her).

Do you prefer hot weather or cold weather?

I definitely prefer hot weather, but summers in Florida definitely push it beyond what is comfortable. That’s why it’s so fun to be sharing a #booktour post for a book with a wintery-esque cover right now.

If you guys have been following me for any amount of time, you will know that I love romantic suspense. So I was sooo excited when I heard there was going to be a book tour for the 3rd book in @rebeccazanetti Laurel Snow series. You can check out the blurb below. And thank you so much to Rebecca, @kensingtonbooks @btc_books and @tlcbooktours for allowing me to be part of the tour and sending me the book! You Can Die is out now!

Blurb: Men are dying in the Pacific Northwest, their bodies found near churches, charities, and counseling centers—each with valentine candy hearts shoved down their throats. They’re good men with families and community ties–or so they seem until Laurel Snow and her team begin to investigate. Then the case takes a shockingly personal turn when the father she’s never met, a former pastor, turns up among the dead.

Now, besides solving her father’s murder, Laurel is on the hunt to discover the truth of his past. Complicating things is Laurel’s troubled half-sister, Abigail, a brilliant sociopath determined to prove that they’ve both inherited their father’s malignant narcissism.

Assisting Laurel is Washington Fish and Wildlife Captain Huck Rivers, a dangerous loner whose reliance on gut instinct puts him at odds with Laurel’s coolly analytic approach. But the choice may be moot when the killer hones in on Huck’s own dark secrets–putting him and Laurel squarely in the crosshairs.

🤫Synopsis:
KATE WHITTIER has it all: a loving, even-keeled husband, two great kids, and a beautiful home in Southern California. But Kate is living a lie. In a desperate attempt to create the safe, happy family she never had, she has been hiding secrets for decades—things she’s convinced make her unworthy of her wellborn husband, Jacob, and the privileged life he has provided.

Then, one ordinary evening, Jacob confesses to a drunken sexual indiscretion he doesn’t quite remember, and Kate cracks open. Molten memories rise to the surface. Volatile emotions swirl. Triggered in ways she didn’t see coming, Kate is overwhelmed by rage she cannot explain and fear of who she might become.
Her marriage unraveling, Kate returns to her childhood home, hoping to find closure. Instead, as the past invades the present and relationships collide, Kate discovers she’s not the only one lying—and the truth may not set anyone free.

💭Thoughts: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I can’t believe this is a debut. This is a compulsive read. I didn’t want to put it down. The book covers some difficult topics including incest, infidelity, trauma, and mental illness. The author did a great job with the mental health representation.
The descriptions of bipolar disorder seemed very spot on.
The ending was a complete surprise, but deals with hope, healing, and redemption. I definitely recommend picking this one up.

My name is Iris was charged with so much that at moments I felt overwhelmed... but in a good way. This dystopian with a touch of Magical realism story is about our MC Iris Prince, a first-generation Mexican American who has spent her entire life doing what she needs to do (according to her mother) to live up to the American Dream.

Recently divorced, Iris feels she has a second chance at a life she forever dreamed of. Together with her 9-year-old daughter Mel, they move to an upscale mostly white neighborhood where everything just seems right and perfect because her neighbors are people who follow the rules & that is exactly when her "perfect life" starts to crumble.

As soon as she moves into her new home, a magical wall appears in front of their home that only her and her daiughter are able to see. Then a new law goes into effect. All individuals will get an electronic wrist "Band" that will make life more convenient and safer (according to the government UNITY MEANS ONE BAND) To be able to access this bands, you must provide proof of Parents Citizenship. Iris's parents are undocumented making it impossible for them to access this bands, jeopardizing Ines "perfect life & future" and so Your story begins...

This story takes place in the POV of a Mexican American with dark skin. The brown community would easily identify with this take and will feel seen and less alone. Brando Skyhorse did an incredible job at painting the harsh reality for many in the USA, this story was packed with Gender pay inequality, Racism, Classism, Colorism, Crime against Mexicans, Systematic & Institutional racism, Immigration, identity crisis... I mean, this book had it all in one.

This novel is a reflection of the reality POC are currently living under. This is a love letter to finding who you truly are and loving the shit out of you for it. This is about Family and what matters most because at the end of the day We are where We came from and we shouldn't have to be ashamed or discriminated for it. #bookstagram #booksbooksbooks #bookworm #bookcommunity #brandoskyhorse #dystopian #booklover @tlcdiversity

⛵️Must read contemporary⛵️

What can I say about this book? It was an amazing book from start to finish. The author absolutely captures you with her storytelling. It is so well done and beautifully written that this story will stay with me for a long time.

We meet Violet Figg and her sister Trudy. They live a quiet life in their small town of Sugar Bend. An unfortunate night almost forty years ago took Trudy's ability to speak, and Violet took her role of protecting her sister very seriously. Fast forward to present times, and they run a quaint little art shop where Trudy makes her sculptures, and Violet runs the shop. Violet gave her entire life to take care of her sister, her career, her life, and the man she loved .

When a young, beautiful stranger shows up in their shop, everything changes. Maya has been on her own almost her entire life. When she feels a strange urge to go to Sugar Bend, she will find that life is full of surprises and will have to find her destiny. This story is full of sisterhood, love, sacrifice, and above all, second chances. Get the tissues ready because this will absolutely move you to tears, in the best possible way.

💍 Lots of people get pre-wedding jitters, but Bailey Tomlin’s are a bit extreme. Paranoia . . . the sudden ability to communicate with her pet parrot . . . something odd is definitely happening. And while Bailey searches for the perfect dress, she discovers the unexpected reason why: her birth mother, Esme, is an actual witch, part of a magical clan in the neighboring town of Zenobia, New York. Esme insists that Bailey, too, has witch blood in her veins. That’s not going to play well with Bailey’s uptight future in-laws . . .

🧹 Then there’s Seton Adderbury, the man Esme somehow conjured into the present day from 1929, and who keeps crashing into Bailey’s plans. In addition to figuring out seating charts and boutonnieres, Bailey now has to navigate her new witch family, keep an unseen enemy from hexing the ceremony, placate her fiancé, and get Seton back to his own time. But Seton doesn’t know if he wants to go back. And though Bailey’s about to marry someone else–someone who isn’t technically 130 years old–it’s just possible she doesn’t want Seton to go back either . . .

Have you ever heard of the Broadway Butterfly?⁣
⁣
When flapper Dot King is found dead in her NYC apartment, all signs point to murder - missing jewels, a bottle of chloroform, a hot-headed boyfriend - yet police are quick to dismiss the signs that lurk beneath the obvious. What follows is an investigation of epic proportions that grips the city and points in all directions - from political agendas and bootleggers, to sugar daddys and socialites - the twisted web of deep, dark secrets runs rampant throughout the east coast. ⁣
⁣
Daily News crime reporter Julia Harpman is chasing the story in a male dominated industry and determined to find justice for Dot - no matter how nefarious the cover-ups become, or how dangerous it could be for her.⁣
⁣
It’s an unsolved murder of a Manhattan It Girl in one of the most glamorous of cities during the most glittering of eras, and I was shocked I had never heard of it before. Impeccably researched with riveting prose, it’s a stunning read from start to finish - perfect for true crime junkies, historical fiction fans, and thriller lovers alike - there’s something for everyone in this captivating and tragic story.⁣
⁣
I had the pleasure of meeting Sara at ThrillerFest and she is one of those people who’s joy and smile just lights up a room and a champion in the book world. Her passion and dedication to this story is just incredible and her stunning narrative and infallible chronology of details will be something I will not soon forget. I love how she is keeping Dot’s name alive all these years later, and how this story is a tribute to incredible women like Julia, and the lengths women went to tell stories all those years ago.⁣

📖 Book Tour Book Review 📖

Title: The Happy Life of Isadora Bentley
Author: Courtney Walsh
Pub Day: 6/13/23

Thank you, @tnzfiction @courtneywalsh @tlcbooktours for having me on this book tour for The Happy Life of Isadora Bentley! Courtney Walsh is one of my favorite authors of this genre because of the witty dialogue she writes and fully fleshed out, rich characters. Her books give you all the feels and The Happy Life of Isadora Bentley was no different!

I fell in love with Isadora from page one. We meet her in the grocery store on her thirtieth birthday buying junk food. Her inner monologue about avoiding the candy aisle had me chuckling and saying “this is me. Isadora is me.” While she is at the check out line she sees a headline for a magazine that catches her eye: “Thirty-One Ways To Be Happy”. Now, Isadora is academic researcher, so she thinks this is bogus. There’s no way. Of course she does what any respectable researcher would do and sets out on a little experiment of her own proving this ridiculous article wrong!

But, something happens the deeper she gets into her research; and she meets some pretty amazing people, including a handsome professor. However, Isadora needs to learn some more things about herself first and heal from some hurt too in order to let the happiness and people in.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ All the stars. I loved Isadora. Courtney had my kryptonite too with a friendship to an older widow man in the story. I love older people in stories! There was also an unlikely friendship with a teen girl too; that Isadora sees her former self in. Someone she’s able to help. I say it all the time, but the testament to a great author is how well they can write secondary characters too. Courtney passes the test with flying colors. This whole cast…Gahhh…Just so much goodness! The happiness project becomes a bucket list of sorts, which is always fun. I just can’t recommend this one enough!

As you can see I tried to match the cover, but failed. I was inspired by Lauren @thebookscript & Leighellen @mommaleighellensbooknook who are way better at this stuff.
We love a 5 star review! Thanks, @bookish.bai !! We love a 5 star review! Thanks, @bookish.bai !!

BOOK REVIEW: The Rebel King by Gina L. Maxwell

Thank you @entangled_publishing @ginalmaxwell and @tlcbooktours for the #gifted copy. #TheRebelKing #DeviantKingsSeries #steamyromance #fantasyromance

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I loved this one so much. It had all the spice I needed and it kept me hella entertained while I read it. Tiernan and Fiona had so much fire between the two and that banter was SO GOOD. If you’re looking for a spicy fantasy read, you gotta check this one out! I am so excited to read the next one!

BLURB:
All work and no wicked play makes Tiernan a very unsatisfied king…
Of all the Verran brothers, Tiernan is the least suited to wear the Night Court crown. The Rebel Prince is happy with no responsibilities or accountability?just the freedom to pursue his own dark, lush pleasures in Sin City. Including his secret hunger for a certain smart-mouthed, fiery redhead.
Only, the possibility of having Fiona is stripped away when Tiernan is thrust into the one role he never wanted: king. As king of the Dark Fae, wanting?let alone pursuing?anything with a lower-caste fae like Fiona would shift from fun…to forbidden.
Now war is emerging from the shadows of Vegas, and Tiernan is caught between who he’s meant to be and who he wants. And somewhere in this maelstrom of lust, love, and rebellion is the key to the Dark Fae’s survival…even if the cost is more than he can imagine.
Each book in the Deviant Kings series is STANDALONE:
* The Dark King
* The Rebel King

QOTD: Is there a book in a series where you liked the second one even more?

#QOTD: If you are an historical fiction fan, have you read anything by Kelly Rimmer? This was my first book by her but it won’t be my last

The Paris Agent
By @kelrimmerwrites

Wow! I was blown away by this book. What a gripping, edge of your seat, and inspiring fictional account of two women who served in the SOE (Special Operations Executive) during World War II. I was blown away. Before reading this one, I had very little knowledge of the SOE and its volunteer force of spies and I was greatly touched after finishing this one.

Rimmer is a talented historical fiction writer. The research that went into this one shines and is written in a way that I could easily transport myself back into this time. I can’t imagine the amount of bravery and courage these women had in order to do what they did for their country. It was awe inspiring.

In these pages you will find a dual timeline, multiple POV story that will captivate you from the beginning. I loved both storylines so much and how they came together. You have the POV of both Chloe and Fleur in 1944 and Charlotte who is trying to help her aging father remember his time in the war set during the 1970s.

Heartbreak, courage, the toll of war on family, secrets, betrayal, loss, love, and more can be found in these pages. I can’t recommend enough.

Thank you SO much @graydonhousebooks and @tlcbooktours for my #gifted copy and having me along on this review tour. These are my honest thoughts.

I started Sunshine Nails by Mai Nguyen yesterday while on the beach and I read 100 pages in one sitting. I’m really enjoying it!!

When a super boujie new nail salon moves into this little street in Toronto where family owned Sunshine Nails has been for 20 years, the Tran family, the Trans are fearful for their business. Then their landlord raised their rent. Things go from bad to worse! Jessica and Dustin, their adult children, jump in to help save the family business, with a little good old fashion sabotage on the side.

Sunshine Nails is a fun book so far! It’s an easy, fast read and I’m looking forward to finishing it this afternoon!

Thank you @tlcbooktours and @atriabooks for my #gifted copy!

Do you get your nails done? I have my nails a break for a year, but I’m back to the dip! 💅

Do you have any unusual animals? Or any pet that holds your heart? In The Year of Jubilee the family has a pet rooster 🐓that means a great deal to their youngest child, Isaac who becomes ill. My son loved having therapy dogs visit him while he was in the hospital during cancer treatment. They helped his overall mood. ➡️

Thank you @crazy4fiction @tyndalehouse @cindymorganmusic @tlcbooktours for inviting me to be a part of the The Year of Jubilee book tour. The Year of Jubilee is written by Cindy Morgan and publishes today April 18, 2023.

📚Blurb: The Year of Jubilee is a lyrical coming-of-age novel set against the backdrop of the turbulent South in the early 1960s.

The Mockingbird family has always lived peacefully in Jubilee, Kentucky, despite the divisions that mark their small town. Until the tense summer of 1963, when their youngest child, Isaac, falls gravely ill. Middle sister Grace, nearly fourteen, is determined to do whatever it takes to save her little brother. With her father and mother away at the hospital, Grace is left under the loving but inexperienced eye of her aunt June, with little to do but wait and worry. Inspired by a young teacher’s mission for change, she begins to flirt with danger and with a gifted boy named Golden, who just might be the key to saving Isaac’s life. Then the unthinkable happens, and the world as she knows it shifts in ways she never could have imagined. Grace must decide what she believes amid the swirling, conflicting voices even of those she loves the most.

From gifted songwriter Cindy Morgan comes this lyrical, tender tale of a girl standing at the threshold of adulthood, learning the depths of the human heart and the bonds of family that bend, break, and bind together over and over again.

📕Review: This story is beautiful. The themes of forgiveness, redemption and walking through hard times will speak deeply to your heart. I recommend!

If you’ve been around you’ve heard me talk nonstop about Yellow Wife!!! I'm just happy to have a new SJ book to rave about!

👉🏽 REVIEW👈🏽

This one is completely different from Yellow Wife and just as compelling.
Told through dual stories of two young black girls in the 1940’s that are living in two different worlds but both experiencing how their lives are restricted by being women, Black and not wealthy.

Ruby’s story takes place in Philadelphia. She has the brains and the ambition to blaze the trail as the 1st in her family to go to college. Her first love is a forbidden love that can potentially derail her dreams.

Eleanor’s story takes place in D.C. She has the family support that Ruby lacks and is following her dreams by attending Howard University. She did not count on the racism and classism that she is faced with. She falls in love with William and although he is Black, he is from the wealthy Black elite. Love may not be enough for their relationship to survive.

There is lot of history in this book. Also tough topics such as teenage pregnancy, infertility, racism, and classism. Add this one to your #readblackstack
