The Apothecary Rose (Small)About The Apothecary Rose

Print Length: 313 pages

Publisher: Diversion Books (July 28, 2015)

“Suspenseful, historically accurate, and blessed with a wonderful cast of characters, THE APOTHECARY ROSE is an absolute delight from start to finish…” — Charles de Lint, author of the Newford Series

In the year of our Lord 1363, two suspicious deaths in the infirmary of St. Mary’s Abbey catch the attention of the powerful John Thoresby, Lord Chancellor of England and Archbishop of York. One victim is a pilgrim, while the second is Thoresby’s ne’er-do-well ward, both apparently poisoned by a physic supplied by Master Apothecary Nicholas Wilton. In the wake of these deaths, the archbishop dispatches one-eyed spy Owen Archer to York to find the murderer.

Under the guise of a disillusioned soldier keen to make a fresh start, Owen insinuates himself into Wilton’s apothecary as an apprentice. But he finds Wilton bedridden, with the shop being run by his lovely, enigmatic young wife, Lucie. As Owen unravels a tangled history of scandal and tragedy, he discovers at its center a desperate, forbidden love twisted over time into obsession. And the woman he has come to love is his prime suspect.

Lovingly detailed, beautifully written, THE APOTHECARY ROSE is a captivating and suspenseful tale of life, love, and death in medieval England.

The Lady Chapel (Small) (2)

About The Lady Chapel

  • Print Length: 324 pages
  • Publisher: Diversion Books (July 26, 2015)

“A lovingly detailed background informs and animates the plot at every point.” —KIRKUS

Perfect for fans of both Ellis Peters and CJ Sansom, THE LADY CHAPEL is a vivid and immersive portrait of court intrigue and a testament to the power of the medieval guilds.

Summer in the year of our Lord 1365. On the night after the Corpus Christi procession, a man is brutally murdered on the steps of York Minster. The next morning his severed hand is found in a room at the York Tavern—a room hastily vacated by a fellow guild member who had quarreled with the victim.

Archbishop Thoresby calls on Owen Archer to investigate. As Owen tracks the fleeing merchant, he uncovers a conspiracy involving a powerful company of traders, but his only witness is a young boy who has gone into hiding, and his only suspect is a mysterious cloaked woman. When Owen discovers a link between the traders and a powerful coterie in the royal court, he brings his apothecary wife Lucie into the race to find the boy before he is silenced forever by the murderers.

The Nuns Tale (Small)

About The Nun’s Tale

Print Length: 334 pages

Publisher: Diversion Books (July 26, 2015)

“[An] engrossing tale…imbued with the flavor of English medieval life, Robb’s story melds true events with fiction to create a gripping historical mystery.”—PUBLISHERS WEEKLY

Based on an enigmatic entry in the records of Clementhorpe Nunnery, this authentic, gripping mystery conjures a 14th century ripe with forbidden passions and political intrigue.

When young nun Joanna Calverley dies of a fever in the town of Beverley in the summer of 1365 she is buried quickly for fear of the plague. But a year later, Archbishop Thoresby learns of a woman who has arrived in York claiming to be the resurrected nun, talking of relic-trading and miracles. And death seems to ride in her wake.

The archbishop sends Owen Archer to retrace the woman’s journey, an investigation that leads him across the north from Leeds to Beverley to Scarborough. Along the way he encounters Geoffrey Chaucer, a spy for the king of England, who believes there is a connection between the nun’s troubles, renegade mercenaries, and the powerful Percy family. Back in York, however, Owen’s wife Lucie, pregnant with their first child, has won the confidence of the mysterious nun and realizes that there are secrets hidden in the woman’s seemingly mad ramblings…

The Kings Bishop (Small)About The King’s Bishop

“Robb continues to adeptly blend politics with period detail and three-dimensioned characterizations in the Owen Archer tales.” —PUBLISHERS WEEKLY

From the marshy Thames to the misty Yorkshire moors, murder stalks Welsh soldier-sleuth Owen Archer and one of his oldest friends.

On a snowy morning in 1367, Sir William of Wyndesore’s page is found in the icy moat of Windsor Castle, and some whisper that the murderer was Ned Townley—a former comrade-in-arms of Owen Archer. Burdened with a reputation as a notoriously jealous lover, Ned cannot hope to clear his name; even Mary, his ladylove, is unsure of the truth. Hoping to put Ned out of harm’s way while solving the murder, Owen places his friend in charge of a mission to Rievaulx Abbey at the edge of the moors. But when the travelers receive news of Mary’s drowning, Ned vanishes into the wild.

Riding out in search of his old friend, Owen does not know whether he will be Ned’s savior or executioner. With his one good eye, Owen sees more than most, but now he must find a way to penetrate the curtains of power that surround the Church and England’s royal court and discover the truth of Ned’s innocence or guilt…

The Riddle of St (Small)About The Riddle of St. Leonard’s

Print Length: 300 pages

Publisher: Diversion Books (July 26, 2015)

“Gripping and believable…you can almost smell the streets of 14th-century York as you delve deeper into an engrossing plot.” —PRIMA

In the year of our Lord 1369 the much-loved Queen Philippa lies dying in Windsor Castle, the harvest has failed, and the pestilence has returned. In York, the atmosphere of fear and superstition is heightened by a series of thefts and violent deaths at St. Leonard’s Hospital and rumors that these crimes are connected to the hospital’s dwindling funds. The Master of St. Leonard’s, Sir Richard Ravenser, hurries north from the queen’s deathbed to summon Owen Archer, soldier-spy, to investigate the scandal before it ruins him.

While Owen’s wife Lucie faces the plague-panicked townsfolk at the apothecary, Owen encounters a seemingly random series of clues: a riddle posed by one of the victims at the hospital, a lay sister with a scandalous past, the kidnapping of a child from the hospital orphanage, and a case of arson. The answer to the riddle of St. Leonard’s lies in the past, and as Owen’s family is caught up in the sweep of the pestilence, he must abandon them to race across the countryside to save the next victim.

A Gift of Sanctuary (Small)About A Gift of Sanctuary

  • Print Length: 296 pages
  • Publisher: Diversion Books (July 26, 2015)

“Robb deftly interweaves a complex story of love, passion and murder into the troubled and tangled fabric of Welsh history, fashioning a rich and satisfying novel.” —PUBLISHERS WEEKLY

Under the pretense of escorting his father-in-law and the archbishop’s secretary on a pilgrimage to the sacred city of St. David’s in Wales, Owen Archer and Geoffrey Chaucer are carrying out a mission for the Duke of Lancaster. England and France are at war, and the southern coast of Wales is vulnerable to invasion—Owen and Geoffrey are to recruit archers for the duke’s army and inspect his Welsh fortifications on the coast, while quietly investigating whether the duke’s steward at Cydweli Castle is involved in a French plot to incite rebellion in Wales.

But trouble precedes them in the cathedral city of St. David’s. On Whitesands Beach beyond the city a young man is beaten and left for dead, then spirited away by a Welsh bard. Shortly afterward a corpse clothed in the livery of the Duke of Lancaster is left at the city gate, his shoes filled with white sand. And at Cydweli Castle a chain of events begun by the theft of money from the castle’s exchequer ends in a violent death and the disappearance of the steward’s beautiful young wife. Owen and Geoffrey begin to see connections linking the troubles in city and castle, and see they must unravel the complex story of betrayed love and political ambition to prevent more deaths.

But in the course of his investigations in the land of his birth, Owen is haunted by doubts about his own loyalties…

A Spy for the Redeemer (Small)About A Spy for the Redeemer

Print Length: 300 pages

Publisher: Diversion Books (July 26, 2015)

“Fascinating…crisp, evocative writing…. The tapestry here is rich and varied.”—CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER

Late spring in the year of our Lord 1370, and Owen Archer is anxious to leave Wales for home. His mission for the Duke of Lancaster complete, he attempts to arrange safe passage on a ship sailing for England, but the hanging of a stonemason interrupts his plans. On the surface it appears the young man was driven to suicide by a broken heart, but to Owen the signs all point to murder. As his investigation stretches on, however, Owen finds himself drawn into the influence of the leader of a Welsh rebellion whose manifesto speaks to his heart, and a choice is offered to him: join or die.

At home in York, Owen’s wife Lucie is troubled by rumors that her husband’s long absence is permanent, as well as threats by a customer who claims she was poisoned by a physic from the Wilton apothecary. Meanwhile, Lucie is tempted by the attentions of a friend’s steward, even as she uncovers a shattering betrayal in her own household.

The Guilt of Innocents (Small)About The Guilt of Innocents

  • Print Length: 265 pages
  • Publisher: Diversion Books (July 26, 2015)

“It’s…the Machiavellian intrigue that makes this such an enjoyable read. When the iron curtain came down people said the spy-thriller genre was dead. They were wrong. This is as full of intrigue as a Deighton or a Le Carré.” —THE GUARDIAN

Winter in the year of our Lord 1372. A river pilot falls into the icy waters of the River Ouse during a skirmish between dockworkers and the boys of the minster school, which include Owen Archer’s adopted son Jasper. But what began as a confrontation to return a boy’s stolen scrip becomes a murder investigation as the rescuers find the pilot dying of wounds inflicted before his plunge into the river. When another body is fished from the river upstream and Owen discovers that the boy Jasper sought to help has disappeared, Owen Archer convinces the archbishop that he must go in search of the boy. His lost scrip seems to hold the key to the double tragedy, but his disappearance leaves troubling questions: did he flee in fear? Or was he abducted?

On the cusp of this new mystery, Owen accepts Jasper’s offer to accompany him to the boy’s home in the countryside, where they learn that a valuable cross has gone missing. A devastating fire and another drowning force Owen to make impossible choices, endangering not only himself, but the two innocents he fights to protect. The bond between fathers and sons proves strong, even between those not linked by blood.

A Vigil of Spies (Small)About A Vigil of Spies

Print Length: 267 pages

Publisher: Diversion Books (July 26, 2015)

“As always, Candace Robb writes a powerful story intertwined with genuine characters of the day.” —HISTORICAL NOVEL REVIEW

Archbishop Thoresby of York, the second most powerful cleric in England, lies dying in his bed. The end of his life is seen by the great families of the North as a chance to promote one of their own as his successor, and Thoresby himself announces he will leave the matter to the dean and chapter of York. On the eve of this decision, the dying archbishop agrees to a visit from Joan, Princess of Wales, wife of the Black Prince, heir to the throne of England, and Thoresby’s captain of the guard, Owen Archer, has no doubt that trouble will follow.

As soon as the company rides into the palace yard he is proved right: they arrive burdened with the body of one of their party, and Owen finds evidence that the man’s death was no accident. Within days of this discover, a messenger carrying an urgent message for the Archbishop is found hanging in the woods. With guards surrounding the property, it is clear that the murderer walks among the palace guests. The powerful Percy and Neville families are well represented in the entourage, including a woman who remembers an afternoon tryst with Owen as much, much more. Even the princess’ son is suspect. As Owen races to unmask the guilty and rid the palace of the royal party, his final wish for his lord is that he might die in peace.

portrait_B&W_smiling_Emma_Campion_20100214About Candace Robb

Growing up, Candace Robb wanted to be a ballerina, tap dancer, folk singer, journalist—but on the day that she walked into Liz Armstrong’s undergraduate class on Chaucer’s Troilus and Criseyde, that all changed. A gifted teacher, lively, witty, always laughing even when cringing at a lazy response, Dr. Armstrong launched into the opening stanzas, and within a few lines Candace’s ears adjusted to the middle English—and she was hooked. Chaucer’s psychological study of the two lovers was a revelation to her. The next quarter was The Canterbury Tales. That clinched it. Candace went on to graduate work in medieval history and literature, and ever since she’s been engaged in bringing to life the rich culture of the period, from the arts to the politics. She is the internationally acclaimed author of thirteen crime novels featuring the sexy, brooding, clever Owen Archer, who solves crimes for John Thoresby, Archbishop of York and Lord Chancellor of England, and the young Margaret Kerr, searching for her missing husband and establishing her own role in a Scotland overrun by English soldiers. Candace is currently under contract with Pegasus Books for a new crime series set in 15th century York, the Kate Clifford mysteries, which will debut in 2016.

.
Writing as Emma Campion, Candace has published two historical novels about the women of the English court in the 14th century, A Triple Knot and The King’s Mistress.
Born in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Candace grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and has lived most of her adult life in Seattle, Washington, which she loves for its combination of culture, natural beauty, and brooding weather so like Yorkshire, Wales, and Scotland, which she visits as often as possible. She has taught the art of writing the crime novel in the University of Washington’s certificate program, and offers workshops in writing the historical novel and in creating and plotting the crime series. Fantastic post from @beckys_bookshelves for THE YE Fantastic post from @beckys_bookshelves for THE YEAR OF JUBILEE 🐓 Repost from @beckys_bookshelves

Do you have any unusual animals? Or any pet that holds your heart? In The Year of Jubilee the family has a pet rooster 🐓that means a great deal to their youngest child, Isaac who becomes ill. My son loved having therapy dogs visit him while he was in the hospital during cancer treatment. They helped his overall mood. ➡️

Thank you @crazy4fiction @tyndalehouse @cindymorganmusic @tlcbooktours for inviting me to be a part of the The Year of Jubilee book tour. The Year of Jubilee is written by Cindy Morgan and publishes today April 18, 2023.

📚Blurb: The Year of Jubilee is a lyrical coming-of-age novel set against the backdrop of the turbulent South in the early 1960s.

The Mockingbird family has always lived peacefully in Jubilee, Kentucky, despite the divisions that mark their small town. Until the tense summer of 1963, when their youngest child, Isaac, falls gravely ill. Middle sister Grace, nearly fourteen, is determined to do whatever it takes to save her little brother. With her father and mother away at the hospital, Grace is left under the loving but inexperienced eye of her aunt June, with little to do but wait and worry. Inspired by a young teacher’s mission for change, she begins to flirt with danger and with a gifted boy named Golden, who just might be the key to saving Isaac’s life. Then the unthinkable happens, and the world as she knows it shifts in ways she never could have imagined. Grace must decide what she believes amid the swirling, conflicting voices even of those she loves the most.

From gifted songwriter Cindy Morgan comes this lyrical, tender tale of a girl standing at the threshold of adulthood, learning the depths of the human heart and the bonds of family that bend, break, and bind together over and over again.

📕Review: This story is beautiful. The themes of forgiveness, redemption and walking through hard times will speak deeply to your heart. I recommend!

If you’ve been around you’ve heard me talk nonstop about Yellow Wife!!! I'm just happy to have a new SJ book to rave about!

👉🏽 REVIEW👈🏽

This one is completely different from Yellow Wife and just as compelling.
Told through dual stories of two young black girls in the 1940’s that are living in two different worlds but both experiencing how their lives are restricted by being women, Black and not wealthy.

Ruby’s story takes place in Philadelphia. She has the brains and the ambition to blaze the trail as the 1st in her family to go to college. Her first love is a forbidden love that can potentially derail her dreams.

Eleanor’s story takes place in D.C. She has the family support that Ruby lacks and is following her dreams by attending Howard University. She did not count on the racism and classism that she is faced with. She falls in love with William and although he is Black, he is from the wealthy Black elite. Love may not be enough for their relationship to survive.

There is lot of history in this book. Also tough topics such as teenage pregnancy, infertility, racism, and classism. Add this one to your #readblackstack

The Sorcerer of Pyongyang follows the journey of Cho Jun-su, a ten-year old boy growing up in 1990's North Korea, whose life is changed when he comes across a handbook to Dungeons & Dragons. This book is both wildly inventive and imaginative yet grounded in meticulous research -though that may seem to be at odds, it works!

PUB DATE: 11.29.22 - swipe for the full synopsis!

I must admit, I was skeptical of reading about North Korean characters and North Korean life as written by a white, British American journalist, but Theroux did a fine job. Written in a journalistic style, Cho Jun-Su's story comes alive. It reads like a long feature in a magazine such as The Atlantic. IMHO, Theroux was purposeful in affecting a plain, objective reporter-ish tone to let Cho Jun-Su’s experiences shine through.

While Cho Jun-su is a fictional character -his story is inspired by the author's research of North Korean refugees, and his book offers a glimpse into North Korean society - from prison camps, schooling, experiences of elites, and the hope of love and normalcy.

The Dungeons & Dragons handbook, as translated by his teacher as the House of Possibilities, gave Jun-Su inspiration as he navigates his own life choices.

I love how the story truly comes full circle. It was clever and unexpected. I also really like how at the end, the author reverts to the first-person to incorporate the "journalist" who has been telling us Cho Jun-Su's story. I read a different book right after this one, If An Egyptian Cannot Speak English, with a similar end scene. The change in narrative really intrigues me as a literary device. Interesting how I read these books back-to-back as they have a lot of similarities.

I recommend this thought-provoking read. But be sure to also read about true, lived experiences/works by North Koreans.

I have read a handful of other books by Christi. They have all been contemporary romances. So, this paranormal romance book is a nice switch up. The quirky humor was what I loved the most about this book. Maisy and Rhys shared some witty banter. Rhys definitely had his hands full with Maisy. The romance between these two was sweet with a kick of spice.

BOOK REVIEW

Thank you @harpermusebooks @jennilwalsh @tlcbooktours for sending this fabulous historical fiction novel my way!! ❤️

I declare that The Call of The Wrens by Jenni L. Walsh is a must read for all my historical fiction loving friends! You know this genre has my whole heart but I also know some readers get burnout with it. I’m here to tell you to give this book a read! The Call of the Wrens is a fresh new story that was inspiring, unique, and hopeful.

“What necessity is there to dwell on the past when the present is so much surer, the future so much brighter”

I believe these stories remind us that women are strong and capable. That we have a place in history. And that we are still capable of remaking our futures.

This is a dual narrative book that centers around the brave women serving in the Royal Naval Service during WWI and WWII. Specifically “the Wrens” who served as dispatch riders, brave women riding motorcycles into danger to deliver messages and carrier pigeons to the front lines. These women were such bad asses and their story deserves to be told, honored and remembered.

The book follows two women in two timelines that I loved equally, which is rare. Marion, an orphan, as she finds purpose in her work. I loved that she was so bookish! And Evelyn, who has a disability but wants to live a life of purpose and strength. The book features strong women, deep friendships, and unique adventures. An emotional read that historical fans will adore!

I will be hosting an IG Live with Jenni soon so stay tuned! The book releases Nov 15.

📖 BOOK REVIEW 📖

"Jasmine Zumideh Needs a Win" by Susan Azim Boyer
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐⭐

❓QOTD: If you were to revisit your high school days, what one thing would you change❓

📚 In this YA debut novel, Jasmine is a senior in high school in a suburban California of 1979. She is an aspiring journalist eager to get into NYU. To meet her early college application deadline, Jasmine states on her application that she is a Senior Class President-Elect. There is a small problem, Jasmine hasn't won the election yet.

💭 This book is so witty and funny, it made me laugh outloud all the way through. Those who grew up in the family with immigrant parents or themselves made this country their home will have a whole new level of appreciation for this book. Jasmine's dad is from Iran and her mother is Irish American, and just as Jasmine is trying her best to run an all-American high school election campaign, an incident between Iran and US makes it impossible for her to keep her ethnic identity out of her campaign. A small lie snowballs into a huge avalanche threatening Jasmine's win.

This is such a great book with the moral that the ends don't always justify the means. There are so many things that would help Jasmine win, but how much would she lose in the process? The characters are so well-written! Jasmine is hilarious, her auntie is so sweet and caring, her brother is a typical obnoxious younger sibling. This novel is so lighthearted and carries a great message. It talks about self-acceptance, xenophobia, and staying true to yourself.

⚖️ If you're looking for a YA book with a great insight and fierce humour, this is a great one. 5/5 ⭐ from me.

This book is out November 1, 2022. Thank you, @tlcbooktours for having me on this tour.

ՏƳƝƠƤՏӀՏ:
“That’s not my sister.” Overwhelmed by shock and relief, those are the only words Deven can muster when she is called to identify the body of a suicide victim. A body she was informed was her sister, Kennedy. But as she stares at the lifeless stranger, she’s filled with questions: Who is this woman? Why was Deven listed as family? And most important, where is Kennedy? Her intuition tells her just one thing: this can’t be a total coincidence.

Desperate to put the pieces together, Deven launches her own investigation. Soon, she finds herself tangled in a web of secrets and lies so twisted that it blurs the lines between fact and fiction.  And between the sister she thought she knew and the one who seems to have many hidden, dangerous lives. But only Kennedy would have the answers to increasingly urgent questions. Just one possibility is clear: Kennedy isn’t missing. Maybe she just doesn’t want to be found. And maybe you can never truly know another person. Even your own sister.

What an absolute page turner! I found that every chapter had such a great twist and I just devoured this book. The plot twist, stunner of an ending will leave your mind blown for days. Overall, a well-written story that will make your jaw drop with every twist + turn. I recommend this to all of my thriller lovers out there. 𝗕𝗢𝗡𝗨𝗦 𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗦 because it takes place in New Jersey and your girl here is from northern New Jersey! 😋

✨𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗧𝗢𝗨𝗥✨

When famed chef Augustus Beauvais dies, he leaves behind a celebrated reputation―and four women grappling with loss, anger, pain, and the question of how the world will turn without him…

Meadow, the ex-wife with whom Augustus built an empire―and a family―still holds a place for him in her heart, even as she continues to struggle with his infidelities, which ended their twenty-year marriage. More unforgiving is Maya, his estranged daughter, who’s recently out of rehab but finally ready to reclaim her life. Norah, his latest girlfriend, sidelined her own career for unexpected love and a life of luxury, both of which are now gone with Augustus. And then there’s Rory, Meadow’s daughter, the voice of calm and reason in a chorus of discontent.

As Meadow, Maya, Norah, and Rory are flung together by tragedy, grief, and secrets yet to be revealed, they must accept―or turn away from―the legacy of great intentions and bad decisions Augustus left them. And when the circumstances around his death are called into question, their conflicted feelings become even more complicated. But moving forward is the only choice they have, and to do so, they’ll need to rely on family, friendship, and inner strength.

𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨!
Have I told you I love Barbara O’Neal? I read my first book from her recently and I simply fell in love with her writting style, this story captured since page one and didn’t let go. Beautiful descriptions, strong female characters, family secrets and lots of mouthwatering recipes. I loved all of it.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Highland Justice by @heatherdmccollum ~ Review
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Holy. Smokes. 🔥 As soon as I finished this one, I downloaded the preceding two books in the Sons of Sinclair series. That’s how much I didn’t want to leave the world @heatherdmccollum built!
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 The Sons of Sinclair were raised to be the four horsemen of the apocalypse, with Gideon as the Horseman of Justice.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Naturally, our heroine is a thief. Cait runs a home for orphans, and she would do anything to keep them safe and fed…including steal from Gideon.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I couldn’t put this book down, especially from seeing their relationship develop- Gideon shows Cait that she isn’t too cold for love, and Cait teaches Gideon how to relate to his people, and more importantly, that final judgement may be too much for just one man.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 This book has it all: spicy scenes so hot that beds are broken 🥵, treason against the crown, an epic love story, and scenes that brought me to tears.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I give this one ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. This is the third in the Sons of Sinclair series, but you don’t have to read in order to easily follow along.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I am waiting with bated breath for Bas’s story, the Horseman of Death! 💀 Seriously, it’s going to be incredible.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 The greatest of thanks to @entangled_publishing and @tlcbooktours for bringing this series into my life ♥️
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 QOTD: What’s the last book you read that you liked so much you picked up everything else in the series? (My tbr is crying right now 😂 BUT SO WORTH IT)
California is home to all kinds of people and ever California is home to all kinds of people and every kind of story. I didn’t grow up here, but I’ve lived here my entire adult life, and have started collecting books with California settings. This short story collection fits right in. It’s out now - I hope you’ll check it out ☀️
Here’s the synopsis:
In present-day Southern California, a diverse group of characters seeks the fulfillment and connection this sunny state has always promised. They come with hopes for a better lifestyle, for a change of perspective, or for the dry, mild West Coast weather. A couple moves to Palm Desert from New York for the arid, warm climate a doctor prescribes and they manage both illness and homesickness. The woman makes an unlikely friend in a young albino boy who teaches her a harsh lesson about the margin for cruelty that resides in us all. A young Mexican woman migrates to California and marries an American man—only to be deserted. A young man is disqualified from the Naval Aeronautical program and returns to his sister’s home, where he struggles with his identity and sexuality. After years of estrangement, a teenage girl travels to California from New York to spend the summer with her father. Between each of the thirteen stories in this collection are interspersed several “snapshot” stories—poetic pauses—that blend a set of images into an artistic visual unit, much like a brief cinematic experience. Every character in this collection is distinct from the next, but all of their stories unfold under the glare of the same Southern California sun—a western desert light so clear and unfiltered that it reveals everything. #allsfairandothercaliforniastories #californiabooks #lindafeyder #storycollection

⠀
Thank You, Mama is a fun new children’s book that I guarantee will make you and your child hungry! I am so excited to add this new book to our shelves. My almost 3 year old is a very picky eater (and her “safe” foods are also limited due to food allergies) so it is hard to get her to try new foods and expand her palate. I’m hoping this book will help! I also love that the book focuses on gratitude, Vietnamese cuisine, and that mealtime is a special time to be together as a family!
⠀
Synopsis:
“TikTok and viral video star Grey (@greyandmama, 6M followers) says “Thank you, Mama!” to healthy foods in this picture book that teaches gratitude, manners, and the joy of sharing meals with those we love.
⠀
We all want to raise happy eaters who enjoy eating new foods, mealtimes with family, and being thankful. That’s why so many parents love Linda Meeker’s charming videos of her son Grey saying “Thank you, Mama!” With colorful illustrations that capture a child’s daily snacks and mealtimes, Thank You, Mama will delight parents and kids alike.
This playful picture book for 3 to 7-year-olds
* follows a little boy as he explores different foods–from vegetables to sushi–and tries to pick his favorite
* encourages children to try new foods and become happy, healthy eaters
* honors the bond between parent and child
* models respect, manners, and thankfulness
* builds vocabulary and prereading skills with colorful food illustrations paired with words for each item”
⠀
Thank you so much @tlcbooktours, @tlcdiversity, @tommynelsonbooks, and @greyandmama for our gifted copy! We also appreciate the extra gifted copy to share in a local LFL!

Happy Wednesday said no one in the history of adulting; prove me wrong I dare you… but since we are here, let’s share a mini review with no spoilers below ↴

𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙱𝚎𝚜𝚝 𝙺𝚎𝚙𝚝 𝚂𝚎𝚌𝚛𝚎𝚝 ➟ ᴍʏ ʀᴀᴛɪɴɢ: ★ ★ ★ ★

What’s this? Me reading a best friends to lovers trope… no… but yes, yes I did. I devoured the 𝚆𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎 𝚃𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎’𝚜 𝚂𝚖𝚘𝚔𝚎 series & I thoroughly enjoyed it all; 𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙱𝚎𝚜𝚝 𝙺𝚎𝚙𝚝 𝚂𝚎𝚌𝚛𝚎𝚝 was entertaining, charming, witty and gritty all at the same time. I laughed, cringed and swooned.

The characters were absolutely likable and though not my favorite type of trope it definitely had an easy flow and evolution that felt natural when the romance grew. And the drama, it was a train wreck that I could not look away from, and there was a ton of drama that added to plot.

This was definitely enjoyable; if you are looking for a standalone series that is cute and fun, easy to connect and laugh, this is right up your alley!

Full review posted on blog, link in bio! & thank you to @tlcbooktours for providing a copy for a review!

♥ Stay safe, stay fresh my comrades!

#superthankful🙏🏻 for @tlcbooktours and @tlcdiversity for selecting me as a #booktourhost for #amillionquietrevolutions by @rockin_robin_1
This is a bright stunning debut for readers like me who loved The Poet X, #felixeverafter and #aristotleanddantediscoverthesecretsoftheuniverse. Plus@orangeskyaudio
produced the audiobook and the narration was excellent.

Robin Gow’s A Million Quiet Revolutions is a modern love story, told in verse, about two teenaged trans boys who name themselves after two Revolutionary War soldiers.
For as long as they can remember, Aaron and Oliver have only ever had each other. In a small town with few queer teenagers, let alone young trans men, they’ve shared milestones like coming out as trans, buying the right binders – and falling for each other.
But just as their relationship has started to blossom, Aaron moves away. Feeling adrift, separated from the one person who understands them, they seek solace in digging deep into the annals of America’s past. When they discover the story of two Revolutionary War soldiers who they believe to have been trans man in love, they’re inspired to pay tribute to these soldiers by adopting their names – Aaron and Oliver. As they learn, they delve further into unwritten queer stories, and they discover the transformative power of reclaiming one’s place in history.

Robin Gow is a trans and queer poet, editor, and educator from rural Pennsylvania. They are the director and founder of Transcendent Connections, an organization that provides trans education resources to support trans youth. Gow also founded the New York City trans and queer reading series Gender Reveal Party. They live in Pennsylvania with their pugs, Gertrude and Eddie.

🇮🇸 BOOK TOUR 🇮🇸⁣

𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘀 𝗨𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗱⁣
By Kristín Marja Baldursdóttir⁣
Translated by: Philip Roughton⁣
Publisher: Amazon Crossing⁣
Pub Date: 3/1/2022⁣
⁣
Have you ever read a book where the prose is so beautifully descriptive and atmospheric that you feel you could walk right into the book? That’s how I felt about this lovely one.⁣
⁣
The plot's pace is measured, as life in Iceland in the early 1900s was about hard, physical work and family. This story combines a young woman breaking stereotypical roles with Icelandic folklore, customs, and the beauty of a rugged country. 𝘐𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶.⁣
⁣
⁣
📖 Growing up on a farm in early twentieth-century rural Iceland, Karitas Ólafsdóttir, one of six siblings, yearns for a new life. An artist, Karitas has a powerful calling and is determined to never let go of her true being, one unsuited for the conventional. But she is powerless against the fateful turns of real life and all its expectations of women. Pulled back time and again by design and by chance to the Icelandic countryside–as dutiful daughter, loving mother, and fisherman’s wife–she struggles to thrive, to be what she was meant to be.⁣
Spanning decades and set against a breathtaking historical canvas, Karitas Untitled, an award-winning classic of Icelandic literature, is a complex and immersive portrait of an artist’s conflict with love, family, nature, and a country unaccustomed to an untraditional woman–but most of all, with herself and the creative instincts she has no choice but to follow.⁣
